The CURATING ON THE WEB — WEBINAR aims to stimulate and expand critical and practical thinking about curatorial work on the web. The webinar will focus on curatorial interventions online that challenge the mechanisms and traditional models of producing and displaying contemporary art; offering a historical overview and new perspectives and ways of imagining the system of contemporary art and ‘being online’.
Over the course of 2 days, there will be a series of presentations and discussions moderated by the event organisers, and talks by guest speakers who will discuss their work and projects: ZHANG Ga (US) / Guido Segni (Green Cube Gallery) (IT) / Aarushi Surana and Kaushal Sapre (IN) / Virginie Tan and Astrid Lours-Riou (FR) / Valentina Tanni (IT) / Nimrod Vardi and Rebecca Edwards (arebyte Gallery) (UK). With the intent to nurture cross-cultural exchanges and discourses in the field of digital curation, the webinar will also examine the role of curating on the web in confronting structural transformations and moments of systemic crisis.
The webinar will be followed by a WORKSHOP where participants will work with the moderators to generate observations, questions and speculative interventions related to curating on the web and the technological infrastructures in which it takes place.
Hosted by Walkin Studios (Bangalore, India) and curating.online, this event is the result of a research collaboration with artist Vivek Chockalingam (Bangalore, India), curator Vidya Shivadas (New Delhi, India), researcher Padmini Ray Murray (Bangalore, India) and curator Gaia Tedone (Milan, Italy) with the support of Mobility First! – ASEF Cultural Mobility and the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity by the Italian Ministry of Culture under the Italian Council programme.
The events include Marialaura Ghidini (ERL Visiting Research Fellow 2021) as a moderator, and are supported by ERL. Registration is required for both events; registration for the webinar can be found here, and registration for the workshop can be found here.
